One position in which Arsenal quite simply cannot afford any more injuries right now is at centre back!

The Gunners received the crushing news that Per Mertesacker will be out for a few months after suffering a knee injury in Arsenal’s recent 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with RC Lens.

With Laurent Koscielny requiring an extended leave after competing in the Euro 2016 Final, not to mention Gabriel Paulista out with tonsillitis at the moment, the Gunners are down to the bare bones on their California tour.

In truth, this is probably a reason why Arsenal were so intent on getting a deal for Rob Holding concluded with the 20-year-old now on board following his transfer from Bolton Wanderers.

While Holding has received a first team squad number (16), it would still represent an extremely steep learning curve for the Bolton-born player to master with the centre back having only experienced Championship football to date.

With Mertesacker now missing the start of the Premier League season, surely Arsene Wenger has to dive back into the transfer market to sign up an experienced campaigner to boost numbers?

Here’s FIVE men who could be up for the job!
