Don’t you think it’s become incredibly difficult to second guess Arsenal in the transfer market in recent seasons?

While at first glance you may think this statement is false with most perhaps thinking it’s the same old thing of a lack of action each and every summer, just think about it properly for a second.

A usual case is for example Manchester City’s interest in Everton’s John Stones at the moment. Everybody knows the Citizens have been interested in him for a while and the England international will probably end up at the Etihad Stadium at some point.

However with Arsenal, the players you hear linked such as Alexandre Lacazette and Mauro Icardi don’t always end up joining the Gunners despite the incessant links with Arsene Wenger and the Gunners hierarchy often coming up with an alternative transfer target out of absolutely nowhere.

It was very much the case with Granit Xhaka earlier this summer. While the Gunners had been linked with the Swiss international on and off over the past few years, there was nothing about him joining and then bam, Arsenal had secured a deal for him.

With this theme in mind, we’ve today listed FIVE of the most surprising Arsenal transfers to have been completed over the past five years.
