When Arsene Wenger penned his new deal last summer, there was a real belief it would be his last before making a career change or possibly even retiring.

An FA Cup trophy last season wasn’t enough to ease the #WengerOut brigade and calls for Le Professeur to leave before his three-year contract ends in 2017.

Talk has long been rife about who would eventually replace Le Professeur with such names as Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen KloppOwen Coyle (who was then at Burnley) and Everton’s current gaffer Roberto Martinez – amongst others – have all been linked over the years.

Former Arsenal winger Robert Pires has been having his say on who should be the man to replace the former AS Monaco gaffer.

Speaking to Goal, the former French international, who spent 2000-06 in north London, said:

“Not this time. Beside that, Wenger still has a contract with Arsenal.

“Who is the perfect replacement? Thierry Henry? He understands football and Arsenal. I don’t know, but I like Carlo Ancelotti. But that’s my opinion, it doesn’t mean that Arsenal need Ancelotti at this time.”

What do you reckon fellow Gooners? Is Thierry going to be ready? Can we forgive Carlo for his successful reign in west London?
