Abou Diaby has suffered forty different injuries during his time at Arsenal. Your read that correctly, FORTY. An astonishing number and Gooners can’t help but feel extremely sorry for the lad. Since joining the club in 2006, he has managed just 124 league appearances, only two of have come since March of 2013.

He has been on the mend this season after that torn cruciate ligament and appeared in Arsenal’s preseason match against the New York Red Bulls as well as several reserve matches behind the scenes. Fresh reports, however, have revealed that Diaby has now suffered a fresh hamstring injury setback which will set him back another three months.

Arsenal has moved to deny these claims, but the fact still remains that Diaby has yet to feature this season(make of that what you will, but my guess is that if the player was fit he would be playing).

Sheer misfortune is the only thing that this situation can be chalked up to, and how we all wish things could have been different.

On his day, Diaby is a supremely gifted footballer; possibly amongst the best at the club. He has all the attributes you could ever possibly want in a midfielder; strong, quick, skillful, tall, combative, intelligent, versatile, etc. The list goes on and on and he could have be a real asset to Arsenal.

He was a key member of France’s 2010 World Cup squad (although it was a disastrous campaign in which they didn’t win in a single match) and was beginning to stake claim to a permanent and prominent role for both club and country.

I have always maintained that should Diaby stay fit, Arsenal’s midfield troubles are over. Should is the key word however, and unfortunately he has never been able manage this.

I am bitterly disappointment. It hurts me to the core that Arsenal possess a World Class box to box or holding midfielder within their ranks but never quite get to unleash him. I truly feel for Diaby and can’t imagine what it’s like for him.

He was once the heir to Viera’s crown at Arsenal, he’s that good. Well he could be, if not for, well you know.

wenger should have cut arsenals losses and offloaded this injury prone and overated player. he has been drawing a big salary for years of non activity on the pitch and is a waste of money big time. but crucially he is a wenger favorite so he stays on the payroll. ridiculous management.
