Arsenal have been linked with a move for Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who of course played for Premier League rivals Chelsea – well, I say played, he was one of those promising talents that the Blues stockpile just so no one else can have them without really ever having any intention of using them at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium international’s agent has been speaking quite openly about the transfer rumours, telling Ed Aarons of the Guardian:

“There is always going to be interest when things have been going so well but I can tell you Kevin is happy where he is. …

“But after that, who knows? England and Spain are both interesting championships or he could decide that another season in Germany is for the best. But it could be difficult because Wolfsburg paid a lot of money to sign Kevin and there are only a few clubs who could afford the price they will want.”

De Bruyne, who only made two Premier League starts during his brief stay at Stamford Bridge, has thrived since returning to the Bundesliga – he spent a season with Werder Bremen before moving to Chelsea – with 10 assists and three goals to his name in Germany’s top flight so far this season.

The 23-year-old can play as an attacking-midfielder on the left or right and in the middle – Wolfsburg have deployed him as a striker once this season but whether the Belgium international is really a forward remains to be seen.
