Is there an AGM that gets more coverage than Arsenal’s? I just don’t understand it.

Anyway, there were a couple of comments from Chairman Sir Chips Keswick that I want to flag up, he said: “I don’t think that my wish or intention to double guess what Arsene Wenger wants to do – as you know, your board backs him 100 per cent. If he has a plan, we back him, if he doesn’t have a plan, we keep quiet,”

“So don’t let’s be in a muddle about who calls the shots about football at the Arsenal Football Club. It is not the chairman, it is not the fans, it is Mr Arsene Wenger.”

Now, that will come as no surprise to any Arsenal fan, neutral or journalist; we’ve always known that Le Professeur runs the club top to bottom, from the starting XI to what air freshener to use in the toilets.

You just get the sense, however, that the club is in for one hell of a shock when Arsene Wenger does eventually depart. Also, for some bizarre reason, I felt that Keswick was attempting to reassure fans by telling us that one man runs the club.

He did not say one man runs the club, that how you think yourself, but they have given him responsibility to run the team, so they are happy with his archivements. The way we think is not the same, Wenger as an Economist, he looks on the side of the business as well, to see if the club is making enough revenue, you cannot be a manager who do not have knowledge of finance, you have to understand if you are making enough profit as a manager or not. You cannot run such a big club by winning games only then you think, you are making more money. They are so many things you have to take into consideration, besides that, Arsenal have archived a lot since Arsene Wenger joined them, he has made a lot of contribution to the club. I am not sure if there is any manager who have done that, which manager do you know who have intiated the building of a stadium. I will be very happy if you can mention one, otherwise there is none of all the managers you know. I think he is the best manager.

Well a very large number think you are wrong. The Board has allowed him too much power over just about everything … including which tea lady to hire. Meanwhile the area where he is entitled to expect control (ie. players, team, tactics) he has made mistake after mistake. He doesn’t even do tactics and he doesn’t do defence !!
