Despite a 2-0 defeat to Bosnia, Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey will be going to Euro 2016 with Wales after Cyprus beat Israel 2-1 and ended any hopes of a challenge.

It’s the first time Wales have qualified for the European Championships and their first tournament appearance since the 1958 World Cup.

Ramsey has been superb for Wales throughout the qualifying campaign and while Gareth Bale has claimed the goal-scoring glory, Ramsey has been the engine of the team, battling in midfield and keeping Wales driving towards the impossible. He fully deserves to take his place in France 2016.

In an intimidating atmosphere in Bosnia, it was a tough game for Wales where they struggled to break down a Bosnia & Herzegovina side which includes Chelsea keeper Asmir Begovic and Roma star Miralem Pjanić.

However, in unlikely circumstances Israel suffered defeat to Cyprus and therefore despite losing, Wales were celebrating frantically at the final whistle. Ramsey told Sky Sports News after the game:

“What a great moment for Welsh football. For me personally, and for all the players, what an achievement to make history and we’re finally going to a major tournament”.

“It’s not going to sink in for a while but I’m just so proud personally, for all my teammates and for everyone associated with this country. We’re finally going. This has been a dream of mine, to try and get Wales to a major finals, and we’re finally doing it”

“To fulfil that dream, we’re only a small nation, I’m over the moon. To all the supporters and everybody who backed us, we’re finally there!”

Congratulations to Wales and Aaron Ramsey, who will join many of his Gunners teammates in France!
