There wasn’t much by way of positive points to pick from Arsenal’s performance yesterday. The lads were flat and lackluster for the vast majority of the match and some would even argue that Arsenal were fortunate to leave with a point. We lacked quality in all areas of the pitch with the exception of a few players, the most notable being Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the centre of midfield.

The player was majestic yesterday and one of the few who looked really up for it from start to finish. Wenger said before that Chamberlain’s long term position is in the middle of the park, and his performances of late have more than justified this view.

His pace and power in possession is extraordinary and he possesses the necessary discipline and work rate to track back defensively as well. So many times he kept the ball for us during a time of high pressure from Liverpool with little bits of skill and composure, before finding an open teammate.

Really, really sharp from Alex of late and I think he has been Arsenal’s standout performers over the past few weeks. He looks a proper box to box midfield player and only time will tell if he retains his place when the likes of Wilshere and Walcott return. He offers something different with his direct running and pace, and a few strides will see Chamberlain transition from defense to offense in a flash.

That can be crucial for Arsenal and Wenger must really consider how he will balance his side when everyone is fit. One thing is for sure, Chamberlain is proving he should play every game regardless of position. So long as he is on the pitch, Arsenal are stronger.
