As the excitement for this weekend’s FA Cup final clash with Aston Villa begins to build, Olivier Giroud has made his intentions clear. Should Arsenal win this weekend, they would become the most successful club in FA Cup history with 12 medals. The final appearance in itself is a historic feat as well, as no other club has reached 19 finals.

Giroud says this history is important to him, and intends to leave his mark on the club and for Arsenal to leave their mark in world football.

“I play football to make history, to make my family and friends proud. In several years, when my career is over, I would like to leave one or two good memories of my time here with Arsenal,” he said.

“I would like to win every trophy that I can so one more would be nice, and even more to become the only team with 12 wins. It`s the big trophy after the Premier League.”

The big Frenchman went on to acknowledge how important the occasion is for the fans as well, and says the lads will do all they can to ensure the win.

“I know it`s massive for the fans and for us, so I will want to win it again. They are the 12th man and they really support us.”

“They are fantastic and you can feel their support every minute, especially when you come back like last year. They were really pushing us to give our best. We have done it together. Hopefully we`re not going to make the same mistake as last year.”

“Hopefully we will start the game strong. It`s one of our strengths this year – we are starting games well and we need to not let them take confidence. We need to play our game from the beginning of the game.”

He has a point about last year, as it was far too nerve racking from a fan’s standpoint. Let’s hope Giroud is right about the lads’ concentration and focus. It is certainly there for the taking so long as Arsenal play their game.
