Arsenal’s performance during their smash-and-grab win in Belgium against Anderlecht last night, has received criticism from one of the opposition midfielder’s, Steven Defour.

Speaking to Goal, the Belgium international said:

“Arsenal were hoping for a moment of brilliance from Alexis Sanchez or Danny Welbeck and didn’t have many runners from midfield. Dortmund’s midfielders seemed to be coming from everywhere three weeks ago,”

“Three weeks ago, Dortmund outplayed us and we have to accept they were the better team, but I don’t think Arsenal were stronger than we were.”

Defour’s thoughts were supported by his 20-year-old team-mate Dennis Praet, with the attacking midfielder saying:

“Arsenal are still a top team, but we made life very difficult for them. We didn’t allow them any space.”

“Borussia Dortmund, for example, were much more like a machine. Dortmund are incredibly fast in transition and on the counterattack.

“Arsenal always enjoy a lot of possession and that was the case today as well. They tried to find a solution from there, but we limited their options.”

Luckily for us Gooners it’s a results-based business, ey?!

One response to “Arsenal aren’t on the same level as Dortmund claim Anderlecht players”

They were right, though.. We can’t play all those midfielders and only have Welbeck and Sanchez as our outlets. Wenger almost screwed this game up by playing a midfielder out wide again.. Hope Campbell starts the next game with Santi and Aaron in the center.
