Arsene Wenger is often said to have the best job in all of world football. This statement is usually said in a facetious manner however, implying any other manager would have been sacked long ago and that Wenger is under no real pressure from the board.

Mourinho is course the latest of his counterparts to point that out (openly at least) while plenty of pundits have expressed this opinion as well. Wenger is usually reluctant to respond to such remarks, but he yesterday moved to deny this notion.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wenger had this to say:

“I have exactly the same pressure on me as all the other managers do. I want to win football games and it’s a huge disappointment not to win them.”

“But that’s part of football. It’s not all about the highs. There are lows in the game too.”

When asked to respond to Mourinho’s comments, Wenger responded somewhat irritably, preferring to focus instead on today’s match and the road ahead.

“Leave Mourinho (comments) out of here, it would be much better,” he said. “Let’s wait until the end of the season, we have 48 points today. We will see at the end of the season.”

“We have massive games in front of us and we have played two times away from home more than at home (in the Premier League), so the way we play at home is vital.”

“The reactions today are always very emotional, but life is not always on a high.”

“You have to go through lows and highs, and at the end of the day it is about how consistent you have been in response to disappointments that makes your life.”

It is safe to say that the boss is feeling the pressure perhaps now more so than ever before. Let’s hope his side relieves some of that pressure with a good performance today. The lads need a response, not only for the boss’ sake but also to banish the demons of Wednesday.
