Arsene Wenger has moved to cool any fears that Arsenal would not be active in the upcoming January window. I previously expressed my concern on the matter (can you blame me?) on the count of Wenger’s usual reluctance as well as previous statements indicating otherwise. He once implied that Arsenal do not need any reinforcements when everyone is fit, and couple that with a few good performances from several players while out of position, you could be forgiven for assuming Wenger may have gotten some funny ideas.

He however rubbished these concerns yesterday, when he made statements to the contrary. The boss said he will not hesitate to spend in January.

“I’ve said that many times, without any doubt: if we find the right player we will do (a deal),” he said.

“There’s a huge difference between the perceptions that people have of me: I’m not scared to spend money. It was periods where we had not the money. What I don’t like is to spend the money I haven’t got.”

“What I fought against is to spend money that would put the future of the club in danger. Now I have money. No problem at all.”

This will come as music to gooners’ ears. Navigating this treacherous Christmas period will of course come first, but as January quickly approaches it is good to hear the boss is on the same page as us. Wenger simply has to get January right if Arsenal is to salvage their season. First things first though, let’s get the result needed to put ourselves in a position to kick on in January.
