Arsene Wenger is confident his side can compete for the Premier League crown next season, and hinted at possible transfer dealings this summer. Speaking ahead of the West Brom match tomorrow, Wenger looked forward to the summer and to next season, commenting on his squad and the club’s progression.

“The squad is the right number but the competition has to be right,” he said.

“Not too big because too big kills competition while too short kills competition as well. Let us not forget we have three players out on loan who come back, like Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell.”

When asked if some players had to go before new players were brought in, the boss had this to say:

“Chronologically you do not always decide that. Sometimes you have to decide ‘okay, we have an opportunity, we do it and after we will see how we deal with the rest’.”

The gaffer concluded, saying his side has come a long way as is evident by the improved record against the top clubs.

“I’ve learned this season that we have made progress, we have better defensive stability and that the belief in the team is strengthened for a big challenge next year.”

“We have overcome a hurdle that we did not do last season and that’s to exist in the big games. That is very important when you want to challenge.”

Gooners will be thrilled with these statements and with the team’s progress and will demand more of the same next season. The squad is nearly there and it is good to hear Wenger make reference to it. Let’s hope he gets the summer transfer window spot on to put Arsenal in position to challenge.
