Arsene Wenger was full of praise for young winger Jeff Reine-Adelaide, saying he was impressed with his young compatriot’s performances this off season, particularly for his role in the Emirates Cup victory over Wolfsburg yesterday. The skillful winger created Walcott’s winner, turning and beating a defender before slipping in Walcott in behind.

He was the name on many gooners’ lips afterwards, and his boss was delighted with the display from the young summer recruit. Adelaide joined this summer from Lens this summer and raise eyebrows when he was called up for the first team’s trip to Singapore. As reported by Sky Sports, Wenger said the youngster has made quite an impression, and says he wants to keep the player with the reserve side instead of sending him on loan.

“He will definitely be here,” said Wenger after the match. “He is 17 years old and looks very promising, but he needs to work with us now for a year with the first team, to play with the U21s and develop. There is a fantastic potential there and he will stay with us.”

“I don’t know,” he said of the Frenchman who has featured for his country at U17 level. “Honestly, I don’t know. But for me it was a good opportunity to watch him today.”

“In some situations, of course, he has the game of a 17 year old, but on the other hand he has shown great potential as well. “He looks very advanced physically and I’m sure that he has learnt a lot from these two days.”

It is always fun for gooners to get a glimpse of the next generation of Arsenal players. With Adelaide, Akpom, Zelalem, and whole host of top quality young players, Arsenal’s future looks to be in good hands.
