Saturday the 30th May marked a landmark day for Arsenal Football Club and it’s long standing manager. A record 12th FA Cup for the club, whilst Arsene Wenger claimed an joint-top sixth.

The story is all too familiar. When juxtaposed to last year, where we witnessed a mass jubilation about the Gunners ending their nine year trophy drought to win the same cup. There was similar talk of the victory serving as a platform for Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League the following season.

Despite this, Arsenal could not manoeuvre a serious title challenge and instead fell short of expectations and finished in a comfortable third place.

So what is missing from this Arsenal side?

For some it is the lack of a killer instinct or a ruthless aggression. Such a characteristic is not easily acquired; and only a select few have that driven mentality required.

Alexis Sanchez is one of them. Perhaps, the only player in the current Arsenal side who possess an unmatched clinical nature to his game. If Arsenal are to reach
their deserved heights, if Arsene Wenger is to once again make Arsenal a potent force in England and indeed Europe, than there is an urgent need for a player of similar quality and style.

Luckily for Arsenal, there is one man, who might just be available to make the difference. Karim Benzema.

Karim Benzema has enjoyed an illustrious career as one of the most prolific, exciting and creative forwards in Europe. For six years he has led an ever-evolving Real Madrid frontline. A consistent figure in a team known for it’s knack for radical changes of personnel. During this time, he has managed 133 goals in 281 appearances.

Such a record is a great achievement in a team where the main striker plays second fiddle to the superstar that is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Benzema’s international record is also impressive international record with 25 goals in 77 appearances.

With the imminent change in manager at Real Madrid; there is the very real possibility that Karim Benzema could be available this summer, with a flurry of potential suitors including the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City. Nevertheless, Benzema is a summer target that Arsenal cannot afford to miss out on.

His finishing and deadly nature in the box could transform Arsenal from a very good side into a great one. Whilst Olivier Giroud has done a sterling job in scoring and assisting goals for the past three years; he cannot be said to have the same goal scoring ability or world class nature as Benzema.

This is exactly what Arsenal have been missing since the sale of Van Persie and would also put Arsenal on the same level as Chelsea and Manchester City in terms of strike force.

Benzema is also adaptable. A player who can easily play on the wing, in the number 10 role or even alongside Giroud in a front partnership. Additionally, his time at Madrid saw him form a formidable partnership with playmaker Mesut Özil.

Benzema’s speed and timing of run could see him make a dynamic impact and reform his relationship with his German counterpart.

Furthermore, his experience in playing in La Liga and Ligue 1 will compliment the styles of Cazorla, Sanchez, Monreal, Arteta, Bellerin, Debuchy and Coquelin, whilst also making the transition into Arsenal’s style of play a lot smoother.

There is no doubt that Karim Benzema, as he hits his peak age, would be a game changing signing for Arsenal. A player who has held his own amongst the Galácticos, a player with the right style of play to blend immediately with the current Arsenal team, a player of flare and efficiency to win titles. Karim Benzema is undoubtedly a player who Arsenal cannot afford to miss out on.
