Reports have linked Arsenal with former goals scoring hero and current Ajax number two Dennis Bergkamp as a possible replacement for Liam Brady as head of development at Arsenal.

Bergkamp is currently working with Ajax’s youth side as well as the first team, but is said to be in favour a possible move. There is no secret in Bergkamps’ divinity to Arsenal  and to have him in coaching ranks would be massive for the club.

Gooners will remember him fondly for the goals and the memories in 11 glorious seasons at the club. The fans are probably just excited as the youngsters will be, as this man brings massive pedigree.

Bergkamp was once tipped to take over Wenger’s role as well, so his appointment could well lead to a promotion down the line much like Steve Bould’s path.

The current youth coach is Bergkamps’ countrymen Andries Jonker who temporarily joined in the summer and it is believed the club would like to bring in a big name in order for Arsenal to keep attracting top youth talent. Another legend Liam Brady was that man before his departure in May, and Brady had a hand in selecting Bergkamp as a top target to replace him in the long run.

It will be interesting to see how this develops further down the line.

As much as I would welcome him, his fear of flying will stop him ever becoming a manager.
