Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has been called up to Spain’s squad for the European Championships, The BBC has confirmed.

21-year-old Bellerin won his first cap for Spain during Sunday night’s warm-up game against Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Premier League Team of the Year nominee has been promoted to the full squad from the standby list, due to an injury to Dani Carvajal.

Real Madrid’s Carvajal suffered an injury in Saturday’s Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid and will now miss Spain’s Euro 2016 venture, where Los Rojas will be looking to clinch a third successive European crown after success in 2008 and 2012.

19 players have already been called-up to Spain’s squad, with the final four names to be announced on Friday, and Bellerin will now be pushing to feature during his nations group stage venture, where they face Turkey, Croatia and the Czech Republic.

Bellerin will face immense competition for a spot on the right though, as he’s up against Barcelona’s Marc Barta, Athletic Bilbao’s Mikel San Jose and Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who plays on the left for the Blues but his favoured position is on the right-side.
