Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy is being linked with a January exit in today’s press, following the news that the Frenchman was omitted from his nation’s squad for the upcoming friendlies against Armenia and Denmark.

That’s led to The Telegraph stating Debuchy will evaluate his situation in January, with France hosting the European Championship’s next summer and the Frenchman’s squad spot being under intense jeopardy.

30-year-old Debuchy was signed from Newcastle United last summer for £12m but his inaugural year in North London was plagued by injuries and his route back to the first-team picture is blocked by the impressive Hector Bellerin.

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta recently commented that Bellerin doesn’t care Debuchy is a French international and has his own future in the forefront of his mind, with the young Spaniard having a chance of making Vicente Del Bosque’s squad for next summer.

Debuchy has started just three games this season, against West Ham United, Dinamo Zagreb and Tottenham Hotspur, with the Gunners only winning the League Cup tie against Spurs out of those three fixtures.

Bellerin is likely to get the nod for this weekend’s clash against Manchester United but Arsenal are unlikely to allow Debuchy to leave in the New Year, as it would leave their defence thin with Calum Chambers looking more comfortable in the middle than on the right-side.

An exit for Debuchy next summer seems more plausible when Carl Jenkinson returns from a second-season on-loan at West Ham, with the England youth ready to battle Bellerin for the first-team spot.
