It is amazing what a few decent touches against Brighton in the FA Cup can do for a player’s reputation, as the Telegraph are reporting that Chuba Akpom, who is out-of-contract in the summer, has no fewer than four Premier League clubs after him – Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and our north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in Akpom.

Akpom caught the attention of us Gooners last season when he banged in an impressive 15 goals in 23 appearances for the academy sides and even made a brief run out for the senior side in the Premier League last season – I mean brief, with the striker playing just one minute in England’s top flight (he has played six minutes so far this season in the Premier League so he is heading in the right direction).

The England Under-20 international played 20 minutes against our Championship opposition on Sunday in the FA Cup Fourth Round and the signs were promising; he was energetic, quick and looked like he could offer something long-term.

Here’s hoping we can secure Akpom’s signature and that he doesn’t end up being another Arturo Lupoli.
