Arsene Wenger took the surprising decision to name his starting XI for Arsenal’s clash with Galatasaray in yesterday’s press conference.
The line-up brought about some much needed positivity for us Gooners, with right-back Mathieu Debuchy returning from an injury that has seen him sidelined since 13th September. Le Professeur has also opted to give Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski starts, something a lot of the Arsenal faithful have been calling for.
Despite the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck not even making the trip to Turkey, the XI is still relatively strong. However, Arsene Wenger’s decision to name a subs bench that included relative unknowns in Stefan O’Connor, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Gedion Zelalem, Glen Kamara, Chuba Akpom and Alex Iwobi shows that Wenger has no faith in Anderlecht getting the win over Dortmund that would help the Gunners qualify as group winners.
We most certainly still have more than enough to overcome the Turkish side – and comfortably at that – so, it will be a great experience for our promising youngsters, with Chuba Akpom seemingly the one that excites the fans the most.
