Charlie Nicholas has admitted he is concerned Arsenal may lose Theo Walcott if he is not included more regularly in the side. Walcott has yet to sign a contract extension at the club, and reports have begun to emerge he may have his head turned.

The Englishman missed much of the season through injury, and has since struggled to get back into the side upon his return. The likes of Welbeck and Sanchez have taken the lion share of minutes on the wings, and Walcott has looked a frustrated figure as of late.

The player himself recently commented on the matter, admitting his frustration but insisting competition for place is good for the side. Walcott said he is calm regarding his contract situation and that everything will be sorted out in the summer.

Charlie Nicholas has now admitted he fears the end may be near for Walcott, and feels he may seek pastures anew. Speaking to Sky Sports, he had this to say:

“I’m definitely concerned that if Theo doesn’t feel part of the team that he might want to leave.”

“Liverpool must be looking at him given what’s happening with Raheem Sterling right now and he’s still at a great age to sign.”

He continued, saying Walcott has done well in the few chances he received and hopes he will be given another in the upcoming FA Cup final.

“I’m a big fan of Theo and this he has showed enormous maturity in trying to prove himself as a centre-forward, but if he doesn’t feel like he’s competing for a starting position then he’ll be tempted to leave.”

“I thought he should have started against Sunderland and he should definitely be given a chance to prove a point against West Brom. He could play and important role in the FA Cup final with Giroud struggling for form.”

Nicholas is not the only one with these worries I’m sure. Although Wenger has moved to cool any concerns by saying he rates Walcott and that returning from injury takes time, it is still worrying to see Walcott struggle to get into the side. I suspect he will take some convincing if he is to sign a new deal.
