Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes that the players must take some of the flak for the club’s poor performances this season.

Gunners fans have been highly critical of manager Arsene Wenger after the humbling 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week, but writing in his column for the Sun, Henry believes the fans’ fire should also be directed towards the players who have failed to perform in recent games:

“Everyone goes on about ‘Arsene this’ and ‘Arsene that’ when the defeats come but the players need to stand up and be counted too. OK, it is his team, he’s the leader, he created that side. He’s at fault because he’s the boss. But the players must look at themselves too.”

The 2-0 win against Sutton United in the FA Cup last night at least gives Wenger and the players some breathing space before their next match. They face Liverpool in a crucial Premier League encounter in 11 days time.

The Gunners won’t be playing this weekend as they were due to play Southampton who are involved in the EFL Cup final against Manchester United on Sunday. Arsenal are currently ten points behind Chelsea in fourth place, but they could be outside of the Champions League places and behind next opponents Liverpool if the Reds win against Leicester City next Monday.
