Anyway, it sounds like we may well have another centre-back that has grown fed up of life in the white half of north London and wants to seek solitude in the red half of the great capital.

A report in the Irish Mirror suggests that Arsene Wenger is looking to bring the Belgium international to the Emirates in the January transfer window, as Le Professeu moves to quickly rectify the dire defensive situation we find ourselves in.

Vertonghen was reportedly a target for Wenger before completing his £12million move from Ajax to Spurs – the story goes that Arsene wanted to make Vertonghen a defensive-midfielder – but Spurs nabbed him. However, Pochettino has had to state on a couple of occasions this season that Jan hasn’t asked to leave White Hart Lane.

Although a few of you will turn your nose up at Jan’s Spurs connections, there’s no denying Vertonghen is just the sort of player we are after.
