Arsenal’s legendary goalkeeper David Seaman believes the Gunners will have a strong spell in the transfer market, though he feels Arsene Wenger needs to continue spending.

The former England and Arsenal stopper featured in some of the Gunners finest successes this side of the millennia and is a fan-favourite, iconic figure in north London and is rated as one of the best goalkeeper’s to ever grace the Arsenal shirt.

David Seaman was speaking with 888sport when he was asked about Arsenal’s summer business and he feels the proposed move for Jamie Vardy is a good swoop. When asked if he was surprised by the move, Seaman said:

“No, not really, I was hoping that he’d come. He gives us another option, Jamie Vardy is not just a ball over the top player, he’s got a lot more to his game and if he can bring that into the Arsenal side as well as a ball over the top outlet then he’d be a great signing.”

However, Seaman does feel Arsenal still need to strengthen further, identifying the defence as an area that needs improving.

“They need a central defender, they’ve signed a midfielder, sign Vardy and we’re looking good. We need that spine. We’ve got Cech in goal who is brilliant, sign a centre half and a striker. They’re additions to what is already a great squad. Apparently we didn’t have a great season and finished second, Tottenham had a great season and finished third.”

Arsenal have so far signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, and have seen him excel on Euro 2012 duty with Switzerland, and it’s expected the Gunners will strengthen further before the window closes in September.
