The name on many people’s lips regarding the successor to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal is Thierry Henry. The Arsenal hotseat is bound to be one of the most coveted jobs in the football world when Wenger decides to step down, and the club’s all time leading scorer is the man some are tipping to take over.

Henry began earning his coaching certificate after retiring from football earlier this year, and now trains the Arsenal youngsters. Despite all the buzz, Henry is keeping his feet planted firmly on the ground, insisting he is not yet ready to take over the Arsenal hot seat.

“I don’t have the pretension to be able to coach a team nor succeed Arsene Wenger. I just want to learn with the Arsenal youngsters,” he said.

“I just want to be ready if — one day — an opportunity presents itself.”

Typically coy and modest response for Thierry, but he isn’t fooling anybody, he would be perfect for the job. He has the personality, and certainly the football IQ to do the job, and I think it is only a matter of time before he starts his management career.

Life without Wenger will be difficult to imagine at Arsenal, but Henry’s appointment would more than ease the pain for me. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the near future, with Wenger’s current deal set to expire in 2017.

One response to “Arsenal legend coy on manager speculation”

“perfect for the job”- he has no managerial experience. Do you seiously think AFC will employ someone with no managerial experience to replace Wenger.

“Life without Wenger will be difficult to imagine at Arsenal”, not for me and many others who remember Arsenal FC, not Arsene FC
