Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has revealed he turned down Spanish giants Barcelona to join the Gunners, he revealed on Sky Sports.

Campbell joined in 2001 from arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur and went on to secure legendary status under the prime years Arsene Wenger’s tenure, winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

In 2004, Campbell was part of the Invincibles side that lifted the Premier League without losing a single game across 38 matches- with their success secured at the defender’s former stomping ground, White Hart Lane.

However, the former England international has now revealed his path could have been a lot different as he turned down Barcelona to sign for the Gunners.

‘Barcelona came in around my move to Tottenham and Arsenal. ‘I was tempted. They came in right at the end – right at the end.’

Campbell faced off with Barcelona in the 2006 Champions League final, giving Arsenal the lead before the Catalan giants turned things around late on to win 2-1 in Paris.
