Arsenal have been linked with a shock move for Fiorentina  shot stopper Noberto Neto. The Mirror has reported that Wenger is looking for a long term replacement for Szczesny with the Pole allegedly still in hot water over the Southampton smoking incident.

Szczesny has not featured since, and Wenger is reportedly looking for another number one in between the sticks for Arsenal. 25 year old Neto has publicly admitted his intention to leave the club according to the report, with Liverpool and Juventus also keeping tabs on the player.

Arsenal is said to have now entered the race for the player in the summer, while also keeping tabs on Chelsea’s Petr Cech who could also be available.

Surprising reports, given that Ospina has been playing well. With both Ospina and Szczesny at good ages, 26 and 24 respectively, Arsenal possess two long term option in goal. Wenger has said on several occasions that his decision to play Ospina was not a disciplinary measure for Szczesny, so I am having a hard time believing these reports.

Not to mention third choice Damian Emiliano Martinez is a highly rated at the club and has been waiting in the wings for quite some time now. Szczesny should be wary indeed, but not of Neto or Cech. His latest performances have been less than stellar, compounded with his actions, and Wenger really had no choice but to bench him. Ospina looks more than capable of filling in so Szczesny will have his work cut out for him.

He could get a run out on Sunday though in the F.A cup clash with Brighton. He is in theory the second choice at the moment which means his chance would come in the cup. Let’s hope for his sake he can regain some form.
