Rumours surfaced today that Arsenal are close to securing an incredible £31million deal for Palermo striker Paulo Dybala.

Two things instantly scream out to me about this rumour; firstly, who? – am I ignorant in not knowing who he is? – and secondly, why all these striker rumours? Are we really in the market for players in the final third?

Dybala is only 21, so that would be an incredible amount of money to shell out on a relative unknown, however, the Serie A club’s owner Maurizio Zamparini clearly believes in the Argentine striker, having previously said:

“Within two years, he’s going to be better than Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Ibrahimovic.

“It would take €40m (£31m) to take him away from us. He’s the best striker in Serie A.”

High praise indeed.

The young striker is already in his third season of football in the top tier of Italian football and his stats aren’t too shabby at all; he has five goals and two assists from twelve starts in Serie A so far this campaign.

What do you reckon then? Is Dybala worth the hype? Worth the money? Does anyone know more about the rising star?
