Arsenal are targeting an improvement to their forward-line and will rival Spanish giants Barcelona for the signature of in-form Spanish forward Nolito in January.

That’s according to Spanish publication Fichajeswho claim Arsenal are prepared to meet the Celta Vigo star’s £13.3m release clause as they look to ease the burden upon Alexis Sanchez’ shoulders.

Nolito has excelled thus far in Celta’s astonishing start to the La Liga season, where the 28-year-old has scored five goals and grabbed three assists in the opening six games of Spain’s domestic league.

A highlight of his early season form was his part in Celta’s shock 4-1 victory over Barcelona at the Nou Camp, which stunned European football as former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas nabbed a hat-trick.

Whilst the credibility of these claims is up for debate, it’s likely that Arsenal will continue to be linked with forwards throughout the season after missing out on Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani in the summer.

However the need for an additional forward has been decreased due to Theo Walcott’s fine performances, as the England international has netted three goals in his last four starts for the Gunners.
