Arsenal look set to miss out on transfer target Alex Sandro, according to the Mirror, after the tabloid reported that the Brazilian is close to agreeing a new deal to stay at his current club Juventus.

Journalist Chris Hatherall says that Sandro was being lined up as a long term successor to left back Nacho Monreal but he has become a regular starter for Juve this season, with 31 appearances in all competitions.

Sandro joined the Bianconeri from Porto for €26million in the summer of 2015 but during his first season at the club he had to compete with Patrice Evra as the first choice full back on the left hand side.

Former Manchester United player Evra left Juventus for Marseille in January after two and a half years in Turin, and Sandro is now firmly the number one choice under manager Max Allegri.

His current deal still has 30 months left to run but the Mirror say Juve will extend his contract to 2022, increasing his salary to approximately £70,000 a week.
