Arsenal sent representatives to Sassuolo to run the rule over the Serie A club’s left winger Matteo Politano, according to Tuttosport.

The 23 year old only joined the Italian side permanently from Roma last summer after spending the first season with Eusebio Di Francesco’s side on loan.

The midfielder impressed during his first season playing in Serie A, and helped Sassuolo to finish sixth in the league, qualifying for the Europa League in the process. The Serie A club then activated their purchase option of £3m to make the switch permanent.

Politano’s team have however struggled a lot more this campaign and find themselves below mid table in thirteenth place, although they are in no danger of relegation with Palermo in eighteenth 15 points behind them.

Despite a challenging season, Politano has excelled with six goals and six assists in 31 matches in all competitions so far. He was however unable to prevent Sassuolo going down 1-0 at home to AC Milan in the match yesterday afternoon with Gunners scouts watching on.
