Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup semi-final against Reading, Per Mertesacker offered his insight on the Premier League title race. As Arsenal battle Reading for a place in the FA Cup final, Chelsea will have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 10 points should they beat United.

Mertesacker said that Arsenal can only focus on their own performance, and admits that the title race very much depends on Chelsea.

“We have to win our games,” he said. “But I think what made us really strong on our run is focusing on ourselves, not too much on Chelsea, Manchester City or Manchester United, just us.

“We’ll see how far we’ve come at the end. We depend on Chelsea so it’s not in our hands and it’s really hard to predict for us.”

The German World Cup winner admitted that the club are paying for their indifferent early season form, but says Arsenal will attempt to right their wrongs in the closing stages.

“We need to deliver good performances and results and we didn’t manage that before. We’ve already lost six games and they have lost two so even if they lose to Manchester United it’s really hard to say we have a chance.”

“It’s more important we focus on us. That is what has made us really strong in the last couple of weeks.”

What do you say gunners? Do you believe in miracles?

Driving Arsenal to success?
