Many questions have been asked of Aaron Ramsey lately, with the Welshman really struggling to recapture his fine form from last season. Injuries have taken a toll and I think some of the criticism slung in his direction is unfair, but the fact remains he just doesn’t quite look up to it.

I didn’t love what I saw from Ramsey on Saturday. Too many times he send shots sailing wildly instead of opting to pass, and his body language suggested he wasn’t quite at it. As for the rest of the season, it started decently well and Ramsey was fully involved in several attacks which led to goals. He chipped in a few of his own as well and although they weren’t the lung bursting runs from midfield of old, it showed a clinical edge in front of goal.

Both of those things seemed to have dried up lately and Ramsey has been drifting in and out of games recently.

It is a difficult one to comprehend really, as the system hasn’t changed a bit nor has his role. Confidence is the only thing I can think of this problem boiling down to but surely Ramsey must be bursting with belief. The injury I’m sure was disappointing but since his recovery I would imagine he would be raring to go.

One thing I noticed, is that he is not turning up in dangerous positions to receive the ball like he used to. He seems to like to pick the ball up deeper than before and that is maybe due to Alexis’ roaming. His runs are still there, but he looks to have lost a step, so I’m hoping he is merely recovering from injury still. I am not worried about Ramsey, and I think a further run of games will be what he needs to get back on track.

He spoke recently about this as well and alluded to not being fully fit yet so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. Worry not my friends! Rambo will soon be back!

One response to “Arsenal star set to maintain world-class status”

He’s reverted to type. One good season does not make a world class player. And to think when Wenger said no to cesc he prob had Ramsey in mind.
