Wojciech Szczesny has sympathized with Adam Federici after the latter’s blunder gifted Arsenal a place in the FA Cup semi-final. Federici fumbled what seemingly should have been a routine save from Alexis Sanchez’s low drive, allowing it to squirm under his body and over the line.

Szczesny was seen consoling his fellow goalkeeper after the match, and moved to praise Federici, saying he was the best player on the pitch and was largely responsible for keeping his team in the match.

“He can be very proud,” Szczesny said of Federici. “It only went to extra-time because the goalkeeper was magnificent.”

“We’re very happy to go through but personally I do feel for the goalkeeper.

“It’s a difficult moment for him. He was the best player on the pitch and in his dreams he was probably hoping he would get them through to the final.”

He continued.

“He did everything to do so but got very unlucky in extra-time.”

“It was a really good performance from him and he’s shown what a good keeper he is.”

Fair play to Wojciech. A true display of class to give credit where credit is due. Fortunate or not, Arsenal are into the finals yet again and looking to become the supreme FA Cup rulers. At the moment, both Arsenal and Man United sit on 11 FA Cups, so the gunners are just one away from breaking away at the top.
