Well I never, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has compared Olivier Giroud to Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo – well, kind of.

Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, the former England international said:

‘He has come back and done really well

“I really enjoyed his first goal, it was a classic Giroud goal.

“Arsenal played some really good football, and it was a really good goal.

“He reminded me of Cristiano Ronaldo, that leap, he scored one of my favourite ever goals for United and Giroud’s was like that.

“I really enjoyed that goal.”

Giroud’s first goal has been somewhat overshadowed due to his creative thinking for his second and also a delightful brace from our Spanish international Santi Cazorla. However, from the Alexis Sanchez cross to the Frenchman’s technique and aerial ability, it is a goal that does deserve praise so I’m glad G Nev flagged it up.
