It seems Lukas Podolski might be returning to the Premier League for his final season after all, but it won’t be with Arsenal.

The 30-year-old will return from a loan to Inter Milan without completing a permanent signing after netting just one goal and three assists in his time in Italy. His 312 minutes-per-goal was down from last season, when he averaged 132 minutes-per-goal for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger now sees the ageing German as surplus to requirements, and has plans to sell him off this summer. Podolski has just one year left on his Arsenal contract, and was quoted saying that this transfer could be the last of his career, which makes the move all the more important.

Reports have linked Podolski to Everton, who have expressed interest in the World Cup winner. Roberto Martinez’s side struggled with goal production all season with only 48 goals, and Podolski’s effective finishing could change that should he be included in the starting line-up at Goodison Park.
