Longtime Arsenal target Julian Draxler has reaffirmed his desire to leave Wolfsburg after being the subject of boos by his own fans.

The midfielder had expressed he wanted a change of scenery this summer, but despite heavy interest from Premier League clubs and Arsenal, a move never materialised.

His comments have not gone down well with the Wolfsburg faithful. The 23-year-old was booed while coming on as a substitute in his side’s 3-2 loss to Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Speaking after the loss, the Germany international committed to his desire to leave:

“I don’t think I need to tell anybody what [being booed] does to a person – it certainly doesn’t help you,” said Draxler (via the Telegraph).

“There’s no doubt it makes it hard for you to perform on the field.

“I can understand the fans, though. They have every right to do that. I said in the summer the way I feel and I stand by that.”

The Gunners have been keen on the German starlet for years. A move for Draxler looked close when the midfielder was at Schalke in 2014, but last year he surprisingly moved to Wolfsburg in a €36 million deal.

It’s uncertain whether Arsene Wenger will still want to get his hands on this long-time target whose form has dipped. The playmaker has featured in 11 Bundesliga games this season, without contributing with a goal or assist.
