French media outlet L’Equipe have published an article suggesting that Joao Moutinho wants to leave current club AS Monaco as soon as the January transfer window opens – apparently the Portugal international wanted to force an exit this summer but an transfer away from the French club couldn’t be agreed.

Moutinho has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, and despite moving from Porto to the moneybags Ligue 1 outfit, rumours didn’t quell of Le Professeur’s interest in the midfielder.

The former FC Porto player is widely regarded as an attacking midfielder – I can hear your groans already – however, Moutinho has been used an old-fashioned central midfielder, as well as a defensive mid for Monaco which may well suggest why Wenger is reportedly interested in bringing him to north London.

One stumbling block over any potential move looks set to be the wages Moutinho would command (something in the region of £2.75million-a-year after tax) and also Monaco’s asking price of £24million.

What do you reckon? Is Moutinho Emirates-bound? Is he the man for the job?
