19-year-old Arsenal ace Alex Iwobi made his international debut for Nigeria yesterday, making his senior bow on the national stage before making the field in a first-team game for Arsenal!

Iwobi, nephew of Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha, came on as a 57th minute substitute during Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Congo DR yesterday.

Arsenal fans remember Iwobi fondly from the Emirates Cup, where he starred and scored during the 6-0 demolition of Ligue 1 runners-up Lyon.

Iwobi recently penned a new long-term contract with Arsenal and is expected to make first-team appearances imminently, although it’s not yet known whether he will head out on-loan after the international break.

If he stays at Arsenal, it’s likely he will make an appearance in the Capital One Cup game against Sheffield Wedesnday later this month.

Iwobi has featured regularly for Arsenal’s U21 side this season, scoring two goals and grabbing two assists in five appearance in the U21 Premier League this season.

Congratulations Alex on your senior debut with Nigeria!
