Talk of new signings in the final third will not stop, despite Arsenal’s desperate need for a defensive-minded midfielder and (a minimum of) two central defenders.

The forward being linked – yet again – with a move to Arsenal is Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema who, despite bagging 11 goals and five assists in 13 games across La Liga and the Champions League this season, is reportedly close to the exit door at the Bernabeu.

The Metro are suggesting that Arsene Wenger wants the French international to spearhead his attack and is ready to make a move in the fast approaching January transfer window.

£40million is the fee being touted – with Liverpool gaffer Brendan Rodgers also rumoured to be in for the striker – although that seems unlikely given that reports suggested Arsene Wenger would have a transfer kitty in the region of £20million to spend in the next transfer window.

Reports also suggest that any deal depends on whether Carlo Ancelotti can find a replacement for the striker – Yaya Sanogo is available, Carlo…

What do you reckon? Is there really no smoke without fire? Imagine Alexis Sanchez teeing up Karim Benzema…*swoon*
