Kike Marin, reporter for Spanish publication El Confidencial, says Arsenal will pursue Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema but have a contingency plan in place in case it falls through in the form of Bayern man Robert Lewandowski.

Marin posted the news via his official twitter account, sending the twittersphere in a bit of a frenzy last night.

Arsenal will reportedly turn their attention to Lewandowski should the Benzema deal fall through, and the Pole is rated around £44.7million according to reports in the Metro.

We won’t get tangled up in who is the better option between Benzema and Lewandowski, because in truth Arsenal would be unstoppable with either one leading the line. Lewandowski is a supreme finisher and poacher, he would improve most XIs in world football.

He is a bit like Giroud with his physical presence, strength, and hold up play, but he runs about more than the Frenchman and is a bit more consistent in front of goal as well. His goal scoring tally is undeniable and rarely drifts out of the game or fails to make an impact.

He bagged 17 goals in 30 appearances for Munich last year, and the player’s agent hinted he may interested in a move to England. He loves to combine with his midfielders and wingers and get on the end of chances and with the likes of Ozil, Sanchez, and Walcott, feeding him he would have a field day at Arsenal for sure.

He is the calibre of player to take Arsenal to the next level without a doubt, and if indeed the Benzema deals falls through, gooners would more than gladly have Lewandowski.

Gooners wouldn’t mind an all out pursuit of Lewandowski in his own right, such a gifted a footballer he is, so let’s see how this story develops.
