Arsenal prodigy Gedion Zelalem made his Champions League debut yesterday and look comfortable in the centre of the park. The occasion didn’t seem to phase him to be fair and Zelalem was delighted to have been granted a chance to play.

Locking horns with Wesley Sneijder in particular has left a lasting impression on the youngster, who described the occasion as “fantastic.”

“He [Sneijder] has won the Champions League, so to be able to play against him was very good” he said.

“He’s a top player and hopefully I can win the Champions League as well one day. I can learn from the way he switches the ball, his quick feet and things like that.”The 17 year old came on at half time for Mathieu Flamini and said the moment will be something he remembers for a long time. Speaking after the match, Zelalem had this to say:

“All your life you work for this moment, so to be able to play was very good. You dream of that as a boy – coming on in the Champions League.”I was watching it last year and now I’m playing in it, so it’s great.”

“Everyone knows that it’s a special competition and everyone wants to win it.

“Being able to play in it is very good for me and hopefully I can do that in the future.”

The youngster is tipped by many to have a massive future at Arsenal, and many gooners were pleased to see him enter the fray yesterday. Zelalem is seen as Arsenal’s long term number 10 (in terms of positioning, Wilshere isn’t going anywhere anytime soon) and will receive more chances in the future. Many expectations fall on his shoulders and it is good to see a humbled attitude from the lad.

He strikes me as hard worker who prefers to do his business under the radar. I like that, and with that mindset he should find himself in Arsenal’s long term scheme.
