Patrick Vieira is arguably Arsenal’s most influential holding midfielder since the inception of the Premier League. The French international won three Premier League titles and four FA cups whilst playing and captaining the Gunners. Vieira enjoyed a long spell with Arsenal from 1996-2005 and joined Juventus that summer. The Frenchman continued to show his class as he won the Serie A in his first season. Unfortunately, Juventus were relegated to the Serie B for match fixing that year and this resulted in Vieira moving to Inter Milan where he would add three Serie A championships to his trophy cabinet.

The departure of Vieira left Arsenal with a major hole in midfield that they attempted to fill with multiple players that unfortunately never fully developed.
