Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told a pre-match press conference today that he plans to make signings in January, amid further injury problems.

Francis Coquelin’s absence for the next three months has handed a huge blow to the Gunners, with a midfield signing now likely, whilst a swoop for a striker to support Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott could also be made.

Admitting that he had no idea what Black Friday is, ahead of the pre-Christmas sales tomorrow, Arsene Wenger stated that he will complete a deal if the ‘right player’ is available and said his definition of ‘bargain’ is linked only to player quality.

“We are in a position where we want to do something. If I find the right quality I will do something. Who doesn’t love a bargain?”

“What is for us a bargain is to buy top quality as only top quality strengthens our squad. Patrick Vieira cost £2.5 million and was a top bargain, first of all because he was a top quality player. We spent £40 million on Ozil and I still consider it a bargain because we got a top quality player.”

“Mesut is not only a provider now; he likes to get on the end of things. What he has added is the runs into the box. He played before like he was not too obsessed with scoring, now he has a more balance between giving and producing.”

It seems whilst Arsenal do have their eye on the transfer market, they will not be spending money for the sake of it and will instead focus on players that fill their criteria; which suggests loan options may be considered.
