Andrey Arshavin has delivered more bad news for us by saying that there is a chance he might not be available for selection again this season.

The Russian international had to be substituted in the first half on Wednesday night against Barcelona, and promptly disappeared down the tunnel to the medical room for treatment.

With news that Cesc Fabregas also suffered a broken leg on Wednesday, news of Arshavin’s injury won’t be taken lightly.

Speaking to Sport Express, Arshavin said: “I think I have torn it (calf muscle).

“If that’s true, then I’ll be out for a long time, at best after three weeks but at worst I won’t play at all this season.”

Arshavin’s injury means that there is a chance Tomas Rosicky or Theo Walcott will take up position on the flanks, with Samir Nasri being drafted into the playmaker role in the middle.
