The Arsenal-Mania Player of the Month: March

March has by far been our best month this year and almost certainly this season so far. Fantastic form home and away in both competitions has put our future in back in our hands as we head into the run in of the season. We started the month in fine fashion and ended it with a very important home win.

A 4-0 away victory over Fulham started off our great month. Emmanuel Adebayor, skipper and AM MOTM winner Thierry Henry (2) and Spanish wonder kid Cesc Fabregas all got on the scoresheet as we applied further on Tottenham in the race for 4th spot.

We hosted Real Madrid days later, keen hold on and even build on the one nil advantage that we held from the first leg. The match ended 0-0 but it was by far the most entertaining stalemate that I have ever seen. Our lads didn't just sit back in an attempt to hold on to what we already had but in true Arsenal style searched for a second. It was a brilliant performance that took us, the only English left into the quarterfinals where we would face Juventus and Patrick Vieira.

Liverpool, the 2005 European Cup winners were knocked out of the competition in mid week and suffered a further blow at Highbury. We took the lead through Thierry Henry, only for Liverpool to equalise late through Luis Garcia however we needed the points and got them when a mistake from Steven Gerrard handed Thierry his 2nd for the afternoon.

Charlton were the next side to stand in our way of three points but they were swept aside thanks to goals from Robért Píres, Emmanuel Adebayor and Alexander Hleb applying more pressure on our North London Rivals and securing yet another win.

Our match against Portsmouth (away) was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and has been rescheduled to 12th April. This meant that we had yet another game put in our busy schedule.

We ended the month at home to Juventus, the first leg of our CL quarterfinal and the return of former captain Patrick Vieira. He received a warm reception but probably left feeling sorry for himself, with his team losing on the night 2-0 and him getting a yellow, which meant he would miss the second leg. We played brilliantly and should have scored more, Cesc opened the scoring in the first half and Thierry doubled our lead in the second. The second leg will be played on the 5th of April in Turin.

And that is the way the month ended, 4 victories, 1 draw and 0 defeats. This has been our best month since November, so well done to the lads and Wenger because we were outstanding this month. Next month we can look forward to the 2nd leg of our Champions League clash with Juventus, the game against Man Utd at Old Trafford and the North London Derby.

After thinking and discussing about all that has happened during the month the Arsenal-Mania forum users have decided that the Arsenal-Mania Player of the Month for March is Thierry Henry.

Thierry has been absolutely superb in the past month. He has led us from the front and has shown that he is adapting well to his role as captain. He was outstanding in all our matches this month and scored some very important goals for us. There is nothing more I can say about this Highbury legend that hasn't already been said, we are lucky to have him and he is lucky to be playing with such a talented bunch of youngsters. His best match of the month came against Fulham (away) where he also won the AM Man of the Match award for his performance.

Thierry won the award with 40% of the votes followed by Cesc Fabregas who had 33% of the votes and Alexander Hleb and Jens Lehmann who both had 8%.

Thierry Henry's stats for March:

Best quotes from the POTM voters on the forum

Uri Henry. This month he reminded me why I like football. He plays like a prince, his movement and touch are simply outstanding.
invisibleman_18 For March, I have to give it to Henry, simply because he was just at another level. Absolutely brilliant.
