Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has said that even if he had started the game against Manchester United with his captain Thierry Henry, he still would have been wrong to do so if Henry had picked up an injury.
Many are blaming the 2-0 loss on the absence of Henry for most of the game. Henry started from the bench because he was tired, and the Arsenal manager was concerned about Henry picking up an injury due to fatigue.
Wenger said: "You know the problem with Thierry. If you lose the game and don't play him then it's the wrong decision but what if he'd played, we'd lost and he'd picked up an injury?
"That would've been the wrong decision too. Whenever you lose a game you are wrong. I just felt he needed the breather."
The Arsenal manager highlighted that Arsenal had lost at Old Trafford before even with Henry in the team, and it is also worth noting that the Gunners have only ever won at the Theatre of Dreams when their star striker has been absent.
However, Thierry Henry will return to the starting line-up against Portsmouth tonight.
Wenger added: "Thierry will be back on Wednesday.
