Abou Diaby has been ruled out for the rest of the season after dislocating and fracturing his ankle.
Diaby sustained the injury when Sunderland's Dan Smith went in with a two-footed tackle.
The injury rules Diaby out for the rest of the season, including the Champions League final.
An Arsenal spokesperson said: "We'll have a clearer indication of the length of time in a couple of weeks."
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger slammed the tackle on Diaby, saying that Smith had no intention of playing for the ball.
Wenger said: "It is frustrating and unacceptable because the player had no intention of going for the ball in my opinion."
