Gilberto: No one wanted to leave the Highbury pitch

Gilberto Silva has revealed that none of the Arsenal players wanted to leave the Highbury pitch during the post-match celebrations after Arsenal beat Wigan 4-2.

Gilberto said: "It was very emotional for all of us and strange to think none of us will ever play there again.

"That's why no one wanted to leave the pitch. I felt like part of my body had died.

"I also remembered that when I first came here, it was hard for me and I couldn't speak any English.

"So I'm proud I've adapted so well at Arsenal. Me and my wife overcame all the difficulties and now we have two children and a happy life here.

"I appreciate it.

"We were a poor family and had to work hard. That's why, as a boy, I had to take those jobs as a labourer and in the factory.

"But I'm glad I had that tough start. It makes me identify with people who are not so lucky."
