Henry: Rennie should have refereed properly

Thierry Henry expressed his disappointment with referee Uriah Rennie's performance during Arsenal's 1-0 loss against Manchester City.

The Arsenal captain believed that there was a foul on Francesc Fabregas during the build-up to the penalty incident, and even then it was harsh to penalise Justin Hoyte for the foul.

Henry said: "I do think in their goal there was a foul on Cesc Fabregas and it was a harsh penalty to give for Justin Hoyte.

"I know it was a bit tough but I think it was a harsh decision and if that's a penalty, I'd like to think the one on van Persie was also a penalty.

"One thing I would like to say, the lads were very down in the dressing room but if we keep on playing like that, we are not going to lose a lot of games that way."

Striker Robin van Persie was also booked for his protests, and Henry said that communication between referees and players could be better.

Henry added: "Sometime we had meetings with referees coming to our training ground and telling us stuff, but I'm sorry that doesn't resolve anything.

"Usually, I don't come out and say stuff after the game but you can't talk to them anymore, you can't do anything.

"I know Robin had the reaction because he thought it was a pen and rightly so.

"But he is a human being and, of course, he is going to be upset because he knows it was a pen, but the ref must understand that, but to give a yellow for that?

"Instead, to think about the game, they think about us a bit too much sometimes, but I'm pretty upset with that.

"We can't talk to them (the referees) full stop and I will be honest about it.

"Sometimes, they're killing the passion of the game. No disrespect, but of course, Robin van Persie is going to be upset.

"He put his arm up in the air, you are going to give him a yellow card for that?

"Make sure you ref the game properly instead of giving yellow cards like that away, I don't get it."

Let's face it, Rennie is a bumbling incompetent referee who shouldn't have ever been put back on the A-list.

And he knows it.

That's all well and good Thierry but Uriah could respond by questioning your own performance. 4 simple chances missed and not much else.

Is it too much to ask for you to challenge or a header? Not even in the last few minutes?

No, probably best just to blame the ref, eh!

Rennie didn't have a good game that's true but come on Thierry, I watched it, saw it coming, the commentators said we'd either spank them in the first half or lose in typical fashion 1-0 despite all the possession. Lo and behold we did.

The problem yesterday wasn't really the ref, we had enough possession and chances to have murdered City yesterday but we didn't shoot! We've been over elaborate in front of goal once again and it's cost us another 3 points and sent out a poor message to the rest of the league that if you keep us more than 18 yards away from goal and put men behind the ball, we're going to faff around and never shoot.
